Hongkai Zhao is a Professor of Mathematics at the University of California, Irvine. He received B.Sc in Mathematics in 1990 from Peking University in China, M.Sc in Mathematics in 1992 from University of Southern California, and Ph.D in Mathematics in 1996 from University of California, Los Angeles. Prior to joining the University of California, Irvine in 1999, he was Gabor Szego Assistant Professor in the Mathematics Department at Stanford University.
His research interests include numerical methods for partial differential equations, level set methods, time reversal and inverse problems, image processing and computer vision. His research is supported by NSF and DOD (ONR, DARPA, ARO).
