During the last two decades the polynomial method led to a wealth of results in the additive theory. I will introduce various forms of the Combinatorial Nullstellensatz and demonstrate their power on a classical problem due to Erdős and Heilbronn. Towards a more geometric view I will also explain the exterior algebra method and how equivariant cohomology may be used to obtain geometric insight to additive problems.
